After growing tired of traditional linen towels, in 1949 the Swedish engineer Curt Lindquist sought out to create a sponge cloth that dries quickly like a towel, but is very absorbent like a sponge. Thus the Wettex sponge cloth was born. His wife Margareta named the sponge cloth ”Wettex”, which is an abbreviation of the words “wet” and “textile”.
